Me

I'm Hidayat.

Being a national player for Singapore's Goalball team means that I travel around quite a fair bit! During my spare time, I like to: Act, play the Cajon or exercise at the gym. Also, I'm a self-proclaimed master of puns!

A Little About My Condition

-

Retinal Detachment

A detached retina (layer of tissue sending visual messages to the brain) which was lifted or pulled from it's normal position, causing me to go blind

Caused

from a sports accident during my mid-teens when a ball hit my face and caused my vision to deteriorate in 5 years

Composed

Becoming visually impaired meant

that the control I had changed. I was frustrated, but I've realized that made me forget my family. Now, I've

learnt how to focus on what I can control instead of getting frustrated

over what I lack

Knowledgeable

I'm always on the hunt to learn new things. So, I listen to a large variety of audio-books, from: Medicine, Science, Sports & even Philosophy!

Goalball

As a sporty person, becoming visually impaired doesn't mean that I should stop my passion. Naturally, I decided to adapt and find a new sport suited for me. The answer was Goalball

What Do I Do In My Free Time?

Theatre

I improvise different scenes on my own to improve my drama skills. Currently, I'm also working on a play which would be presented in the Youth Theatre Festival​ in 2020.

Goalball

Intensive training with the all-male team to advance from 6th place to 3rd place in the ASEAN games. If not, I'm helping to prepare the women's team for their upcoming competitions

We place excessive focus on wealth & careers till we tend to forget our loved ones. Only when we step back to reflect, are we able to appreciate the little things in life given to us (like our health)
